One of the best ways to do it is to pay close attention to the office environment and culture of our workplace.

Many employers think the best way to keep employees happy is to offer them higher pay to compensate them for their time and effort.

Good wages and benefits play their role, but oftentimes, they’re not the most important factor when it comes to whether an employee is willing to stay with an employer or not.

For an employee to focus solely on these things is extremely shortsighted. In many cases, it’s not about the money at all, but rather, it’s about the culture and environment employees experience within the workplace.

Foregoing a better paying job in order to stay in a job which provides a comfortable, supportive, happier environment isn’t just happening in the workplace either. People who have the opportunity to leave their town to move where there are higher paying jobs aren’t necessarily jumping at the opportunity.

Recent surveys have found more people than ever before are rooted in their towns (and their jobs) because of the close connection they have with their community and family members.

Understanding what’s important to employees will help hold onto the great ones. This is not to say you shouldn’t offer a fair wage – not at all. In addition to being a well-paying employer, you want to provide employees with an interoffice experience which will make them want to stay on for the long-haul.

Encourage your employees to share their creative ideas, whether those ideas pertain to a break room remodel or a marketing idea.
Encourage an attitude of gratitude, with employees thanking one another for the assistance they provide for each other. Such an attitude starts with us, the employers, providing a good example for everyone else.
Set daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals and encourage everyone to strive to meet them. Doing this gives employees a sense of urgency and purpose. Then, when they accomplish their goals, it’s the perfect time to offer praise. Celebrate big wins with a fun party in the stylish breakroom!

Much of a company’s success rests on the shoulders of employees. They’re the first line of contact between a brand and its customers. Oftentimes, it’s because of employees’ incredible customer service skills and knowledge of business products/services that potential customers convert into paying, loyal customers.

To keep these employees around for a long time, it’s imperative to create an environment which fosters kindness, confidence, creativity, and camaraderie.
